Not A Bully Dog Training’s “Leash Walking Basics” class helps dogs learn better leash manners so that you can walk your dog- instead of the other way around!
What Your Dog Will Learn
Our Leash Walking Basics Class focuses on building better leash manners while building a stronger bond with your dog.
After your dog has graduated, you and your pup will be able to join us on our Wagging Walkabouts starting this spring. These are opportunities to practice to leash walking skills, enjoy the outdoors and socialize with other people and pups.
Class curriculum includes:
- How to stop pulling, zig-zagging, jumping, and lunging on leash.
- Using the leash as a communication tool, not for control.
- Walking nicely at your side, a formal “heel.”
- Walking casually without pulling or stopping, “loose leash walking.”
- How to prevent or correct leash reactivity and overexcitement.
- Keeping your dog’s attention among multiple distractions.
- How to properly greet other dogs on leash.
- And more!
To attend, your dog should be:
- Over 6 months old
- Current on all vaccinations including Rabies, Distemper Combo Vaccine (DA2PP or DHPP), and Bordetella
- No history of aggression towards other animals or people
- Not currently experiencing symptoms of infectious respiratory illness, vomiting, or diarrhea

Frequently Asked Questions About Leash Walking Basics
We can have two pet parents per dog attend! All attendees should be at least 16 years old.
Zoie Keast teaches all adult basics classes. Zoie is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) with 12 years of experience training dogs and managing behavior programs in animal shelters throughout Colorado, Nevada, and Wyoming. Zoie is the head trainer at Not A Bully Dog Training’s Colorado Springs location.
Classes are held in a variety of locations. You can see the location for your specific date and time on the booking form above.
Each leashing walking basics class will have around 6 dogs.
We aren’t able to offer any refunds but we try to work with every client to make sure they get the lessons they need. That could be a private session or working them into another class.
Yes, you can! Leash Walking Basics is a great class for dogs that already know some basic commands, but need some extra help on the leash.
