Though not the largest dogs, Boxers are highly athletic with impressive strength and power. Some of these pups tend to pull hard on the leash, not even realizing they’re doing so.

As such, Boxers need strong, durable collars that can withstand the pulling and their active, playful lifestyles.

Additionally, the collar should be well-padded and soft enough not to rub away the hair underneath or cause pain when your Boxer is pulling you along on a walk.

While that may sound simple, there’s a lot of variety when it comes to finding the perfect collar for your boxer and we’re going to walk you through everything you need to know.

But if you just want to skip ahead and see what collars made the list, you can check out our favorites here:

I’ve divided my favorite collars into categories so you can easily determine which ones interest you most. Each will be reviewed below to help you decide between them.

Before we start discussing the finer points of these collars though, we need to determine exactly what we’re looking for in a Boxer collar so we can easily rate and compare the various collars we find.

What To Look For In A Boxer’s Collar

On the surface, dog collars seem so simple, and they definitely can be. You don’t need anything fancy and neither does your dog.

However, there are some advantages to comparing a few collars and not just picking the cheapest.

So, when you’re shopping for collars for your Boxer, keep the following in mind. Compare these traits between collars to determine which ones are best for you and your Boxer.

Collar Type

The first thing you’ll have to decide is what type of collar you want to use. Many types are available, each with its own ideal time and place for use.

In some cases, it may make sense to have several collars, such as one for training and one for everyday wear.

Standard Collar

Exactly what it sounds like, a standard collar has all the basics you’d expect but the biggest difference comes in the form of a buckle. Premium collars will have a metal buckle while budget options will typically use plastic.

If your boxer pulls heavily, you’ll want to go with a metal attachment when possible otherwise plastic can work for most.

Martingale Collar

Martingale collars can be a great solution for boxers that pull. These collars tighten when pups pull on the leash and then become looser when they relax. This naturally encourages dogs to walk with a looser leash.

Tactical Collar

Tactical collars are a major step up in strength from a standard collar. They’re designed to be rugged and tough, ideal for dogs with really active lifestyles.

If your dog spends a lot of time running through the forest, for example, then a tactical collar is durable enough not to be torn up and destroyed from rubbing against bark and branches.

Tactical collars also have other worthwhile features. One of my favorites is the handle built into many tactical collars that allows you to have instant control over your Boxer when required, even if there’s no leash available.

Plus, most tactical collars feature double closures that are extra secure and won’t come off during a vigorous play session.

These collars are also great if you have two energetic dogs that like to play rough since your boxer’s canine companion can quickly tear up a collar but a tactical collar can last a bit longer than your average nylon collar.

Proper Fit

Once you’ve decided on the type of collar you’re going to purchase, you need to make sure that you get the right size so it fits your Boxer properly.

To do this, you’ll need to measure around your Boxer’s neck to determine the circumference. It’s a simple process that just requires a soft tape measure. For instructions, watch this video.

Each collar will be available in a range of sizes, and each size will usually be adjustable by several inches.

So, after measuring your Boxer’s neck, you’ll need to figure out which size is correct for your Boxer. On average, Boxers tend to have necks between 16 and 22 inches around, which will be a medium or large collar from most brands.

Keep in mind that sizes vary between brands! Your Boxer might need a large in one brand but a medium in another, so make sure to pay attention to the sizing when you order.

When the collar arrives, you’ll want to make sure you put it on appropriately snug. It shouldn’t be choking your dog, but it also shouldn’t be at risk of sliding off.

The rule of thumb to follow for collar tightness is that you should be able to easily slip two fingers into the collar while it’s on.

Comfort

Your Boxer will get used to wearing a collar no matter what, but you should still consider their comfort when choosing one.

Do you know that awful feeling when you put on an itchy shirt and it’s bothering your entire torso all day long?

It’s so frustrating and annoying!

Well, an uncomfortable collar is probably pretty similar for your pooch.

And with all of their exuberant energy, Boxers tend to be leash pullers, so consider that as well.

Luckily, many collars are well padded to keep your Boxer comfortable. They’re also usually covered in soft fabric that won’t pull on any hair.

These aren’t vital features by any means, but they can help to make your Boxer a bit more comfortable overall.

Strength

Boxers are impressively built dogs, even if they’re not terribly large. The largest specimens weigh in around 80 pounds, with the smallest females barely weighing 50!

Even so, their muscular bodies make them far stronger than your average 50-80-pound dog.

Weak buckles on a collar can sometimes be a breaking point when your Boxer takes off running. This is especially true of thinner collars, so if your Boxer is strong, you should look for collars that are at least an inch wide.

Metal buckles can also be a much stronger alternative to the plastic buckles often found on cheaper collars. These metal buckles are less likely to break under pressure, but just because a buckle is plastic doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to fail.

Durability

Boxers are very energetic dogs that love to frolic and play. They tend to play hard and roughhouse a lot, especially with other dogs around.

Under these conditions, a collar can sustain a lot of damage. It gets rubbed against abrasive surfaces, chewed on by other dogs during play, and might even get wet if your Boxer goes for a swim!

Because Boxers are such active dogs, a durable collar is more important with them than other dog breeds that are less likely to destroy their collar through everyday play and adventure.

Style and Appearance

Not everyone is concerned with the appearance of their Boxer’s collar, but for some, looks are just as important as functionality.

Collars come in all manner of colors, styles, and designs. They’re crafted from a variety of materials that each have their own characteristics.

Buckles can be contrasting or coordinating colors as well.

You can even get matching leash and collar sets!

If appearances are of utmost importance to you, then you might want to consider one of these collars with unique aesthetics. Besides, a collar can be attractive and still meet our other criteria!

Special Features

The main reasons to keep a collar on your dog are for control and identification.

That said, there are some collars with special features that might be useful, even if they’re not necessary.

A great example is a handle. You can use the handle to gain instant control over your Boxer when you don’t have a leash attached.

You might also find collars with special Velcro attachments for ID tags or various types of buckles that allow for easier fit adjustment.

None of these features is needed, but they can certainly come in handy!

Best Overall: ROAM Premium Adjustable Dog Collar

  • ROAM collars are made to last with genuine nylon webbing, rust-proof metal hardware, and a non-staining...

This collar from ROAM is a standard collar, but it’s got some features that set it apart from your average dog collar.

The most obvious difference here is the cobra buckle. Instead of a plastic buckle that could snap when your Boxer pulls on the leash, this collar is made with a heavy-duty metal buckle with a locking mechanism that makes it smooth and easy to put on or take off.

That beastly buckle isn’t the only durable part of this collar though. In fact, the entire collar is built with durability and a long lifespan in mind. The collar is made from double-layered nylon webbing with numerous lines of stitching.

All of the metal parts on this collar are rust-proof. The logo is made from rubber so it can’t stain. The nylon webbing is built to handle any weather, and there’s even a separate small ring for attaching your Boxer’s ID tags.

Sizing on this collar is a bit strange though. It’s offered in four sizes, most of which span just a few inches. You’ll need to be precise when measuring your Boxer’s neck to find the right size since they offer only limited adjustability.

You do get quite a few colors to choose from, with interesting names like Arizona Heartbeat and California Horizon. In total, there are 10 color choices.

After spending less than a year on Amazon, this collar has amassed more than 500 five-star reviews!

You can read those reviews and see all 10 available colors for yourself by following this link.

What I love about it: Excellent durability, high-quality materials, and multiple color options.

What I wish it had: More adjustability in each size would make proper fitment easier.

Not everyone’s looking for a fancy or stylish collar. For many people, simple will suffice, and many more will be budget-shopping for an option that’s still solid quality.

If you’re in either of these boats, then you’ll want to check out this reflective collar from BOOMIBOO. It’s about as affordable as collars come, even in the larger size that a Boxer will require.

One great thing about this collar is its incredible adjustability. While some collars can only be adjusted a few inches, the large size of this collar is adjustable from 14-22 inches, making it ideal for almost any Boxer’s neck.

This collar is made from durable yet soft high-density nylon fabric. Webbing is added to improve the strength and durability. It’s soft enough to be comfortable but still strong enough for a Boxer.

However, the latch that holds the collar closed is made from plastic. Luckily, the large size is an inch wide, so the buckle should be sufficiently strong to handle the stress of walking a Boxer.

You’ll get to choose from five different colors, including hot pink and teal. There are also multiple sizes, and though many Boxers could probably fit in the medium, I’d recommend the large since it’s an inch wide and more likely to be strong enough for your Boxer.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly collar that will hold up around your Boxer’s neck, then you can check out today’s price on this quality collar on Amazon by clicking here.

What I love about it: The super-low pricing!

What I wish it had: A more durable buckle would be nice, but it’s hard to complain about anything at this low price.

To be fair, style and appearance are entirely subjective. Everyone has their own opinions about what looks good or stylish, but it’s hard to deny that this matching collar and leash set from ARING PET has an elegant look beyond that of your standard leash and collar.

For starters, the leash and collar are identical matches. They feature the same rose-gold tone hardware and the same black velvet fabric.

Speaking of the velvet fabric, the material used to craft this collar and leash is incredibly soft. Don’t let that fool you, it’s very strong and durable as well, but it won’t rub on your Boxer’s neck or cause discomfort. Plus, you’ll love the feel of the leash in your hand.

There are seven color schemes for you to choose from, and each of them is equally elegant. All of them feature the same rose-gold hardware, but it looks totally different contrasted against different colors.

Thankfully, the large size of this collar spans from 16-24 inches, offering loads of adjustability. Most Boxers should find a comfortable fit in this range, but you should still measure your Boxer’s neck to be certain.

With more than 2,000 five-star reviews on Amazon, it’s clear that users are happy with this collar and leash combo.

What I love about it: It’s a matching set and the hardware looks great in that rose-gold color.

Searching for the most heavy-duty and hardcore of collars for your Boxer? This tactical collar from Excellent Elite Spanker might just be the collar you’re searching for.

Crafted from 1000D nylon, you’d be hard-pressed to find a stronger or more durable collar. For your Boxer’s comfort, it’s lined with soft padding covered in a gentle material that won’t pull on hair or chafe skin.

If your Boxer is constantly shedding their collar, then this one will put a stop to it thanks to the double enclosure. First, it velcros shut to the appropriate size. Then, you lock the metal buckle that keeps everything tight.

Not only is this a secure way of closing the collar, but it’s also quick and easy to adjust for proper sizing.

For those moments when you suddenly need some extra control of your Boxer, this collar features a handle you can grab. When not in use, there’s a little strap to hold the handle out of the way.

You can attach ID patches to the convenient Velcro panel on this collar, so they don’t have to hang on the D-ring where the leash clips in.

There are four colors to choose from and three sizes. Most Boxers will do well with the large size since it spans from 17-20.5 inches.

Users seem to love this collar, especially those with active dogs that tend to be hard on collars. You can read more than 2,900 five-star reviews and check out the four different color options by clicking here.

What I love about it: You can’t beat this level of durability. Plus, the built-in handle is very handy.

What I wish it had: More color options! Only people into the tactical look will be attracted to this collar.

Martingale collars are some of my favorite collars for Boxers since they provide plenty of control in a gentle manner that won’t hurt your dog. This Martingale collar in particular is priced just right and offers great usability, as evidenced by more than 7,500 five-star reviews on Amazon.

Though this collar is simple overall, you do get several options to choose from. There are four sizes, though most Boxers will need the large. You’ll also get your choice of five colors, including classic black, blue, and red.

Unlike some Martingale collars, this one has a plastic buckle that makes it easy and quick to take off or put on. However, it will also make the collar a little weaker.

Having said that, fitting a traditional Martingale collar is much harder since they don’t usually open, and this design takes away a lot of the hassle.

If you’re looking for an affordable collar that offers extra control for training purposes, then this Martingale collar is my recommendation.

Click here to check the current pricing on Amazon and see what colors and sizes are available.

What I love about it: It offers great control while still being gentle, and it’s one of the most affordable collars on this list as well.

What I wish it had: Some padding on the inside for your Boxer’s comfort would be a great addition, but it would also raise the price and I’m a fan of the current budget-friendly pricing.

Final Thoughts

When you first start looking at collars for your Boxer, you may not realize just how many options there are! More than just varying styles and colors, there are many different types of collars to choose from.

Whether you want just the basics, a heavy-duty tactical collar to withstand hard play, or something with some style, you’ll find an applicable option on this list.

Hopefully, one of them has already caught your eye as a potential winner for you and your Boxer. All of them are great choices. Which one fits you and your pooch best is a matter of preference.
